What’s Your Game Plan?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”  — Proverbs 3:5 ESV

During Super Bowl XLIX, the Seahawks were one yard away from winning the game. But instead of running the ball with powerhouse Marshawn Lynch, they passed and the Patriots intercepted it. That decision remains one of the most debated play calls in football history. Why? Because they leaned on strategy instead of certainty. They trusted themselves and lost.
Life works the same way. Proverbs 3:5 calls us to trust in the Lord with all our heart, not just part of it. The word “trust” means to lie helplessly facedown, totally dependent. This verse is not calling for cautious optimism; it’s calling for complete surrender. Our understanding may be logical or even impressive, but it is always limited. God’s wisdom, on the other hand, is perfect.

Who’s calling the plays in your life? God doesn’t want to be your consultant. He wants to be your Lord. His plan won’t always make sense, but it will always be right.

Reflection Questions:
1. Where are you tempted to lean on your own understanding right now?
2. What’s one way you can show God more trust today?

Suggested Prayer:
Lord, I want to trust You with my whole heart. Help me let go of my opinions and embrace Your wisdom even when I don’t understand.

Who Will You Trust?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…” — Proverbs 3:5 ESV

In 2004, the Boston Red Sox shocked the world when they came back from a 0–3 deficit against the Yankees in the ALCS. One reason? They trusted their teammates. Kevin Millar said, “We got Pedro, we got Schilling, and we got faith.” They believed in each other when no one else did.

In Proverbs, Solomon is teaching us to go even further. Don’t just trust teammates, trust the Lord with all your heart. That means trusting God not just when you're down three games, but when you're unsure about college, stressed about playing time, or navigating relationships. Trusting God fully is not passive; it’s active obedience that comes from a heart aligned with Him.

When we trust the Lord, we stop trying to control the outcome. He’s already there. He’s undefeated. He knows the beginning, the end, and every second in between.

Reflection Questions:
1. What’s the hardest thing for you to trust God with?
2. What would it look like to give Him control in that area?

Suggested Prayer:
Father, help me surrender the things I’m gripping tightly. I choose to trust You with every outcome.

Where Will You Turn?

“In all your ways acknowledge Him…” — Proverbs 3:6 ESV

In 2018, a high school football team in Texas got lost on the way to their championship game. Their GPS gave the wrong directions, and they ended up 45 minutes off course. They still made the game, but barely. Why? They trusted the wrong source.

God offers better guidance. When Proverbs 3:6 says “in all your ways acknowledge Him,” it means to recognize God’s authority in every area which includes school, work, friendships, goals, and even sports. The word “acknowledge” doesn’t just mean give Him a head nod on Sunday. It means submit your decisions, desires, and direction to Him constantly.

God doesn’t just want to get you back on course. He wants to lead you every step of the way. His path won’t always be the shortest, but it will always be the surest.

Reflection Questions:
1. Is there an area of life where you’ve stopped seeking God’s direction?
2. How could you begin acknowledging Him in that area today?

Suggested Prayer:
God, I want You involved in every step. Guide my choices, redirect my steps, and help me follow You more closely.

Choose the Right Path

“…and He will make straight your paths.” — Proverbs 3:6 ESV

When NBA player Giannis Antetokounmpo was a rookie, he often walked miles to practice because he was sending most of his money back to his family in Greece. He even ran from the bank to the arena once because he couldn’t afford a cab. He didn’t have much, but he was committed to the path.

God honors that kind of commitment. When we trust Him and acknowledge Him in all things, He promises to “make our paths straight.” In Hebrew, that means God will level the obstacles and provide a clear direction. It doesn’t mean the road will be easy, but it will be blessed. Straight paths are not just about success. They’re about purpose. When you walk in obedience, God gets you where you need to go, on time and on mission.

Reflection Questions:
1. What distractions might be pulling you off the path God has for you?
2. How can you recommit to His direction today?

Suggested Prayer:
Jesus, straighten my steps. I want to follow You no matter how hard the road gets. Lead me with clarity and courage.

Game Plan Check-In

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart… He will make straight your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV

During a preseason press conference, a coach was asked, “What’s your game plan this year?” He replied, “The same as last year: win games by doing the basics better than anyone else.” No gimmicks. Just consistent execution of a good plan.

God’s game plan for your life isn’t complicated either. Trust Him with your heart. Submit to Him in all your ways. Walk the path He provides. It’s not flashy but it’s the path to peace, purpose, and impact. Proverbs 3:5-6 isn’t just a memory verse, it’s a blueprint for how to live and lead well. As you think about your future of sports, school, work, life, and family don’t just chase success. Follow the Savior. That’s a game plan you’ll never regret.

Reflection Questions:
1. What part of Proverbs 3:5–6 do you need to apply more fully this week?
2. Who can help keep you accountable to following God’s game plan?

Suggested Prayer:
Lord, thank You for giving me a path to walk and a purpose to pursue. Help me trust You, follow You, and glorify You every step of the way. Amen.
