Refocus: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting
Beginning January 4, we’re entering 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting with the theme: Refocus. This is a time for us to seek the Lord with our whole hearts and realign our lives around Him. Each week, we’ll look at a selected Psalm—songs and prayers that help God’s people praise, repent, express sorrow, and draw near to Him. Each day that follows will include a short devotional, space to reflect, and an opportunity to listen for God’s voice. Whether this is new for you or a practice you’re building on, our hope is that these 21 days help you grow a lasting habit of daily time with the Lord.
Types of Fasting
Soul Fast
Selective Fast
This is a fast from some element of your life that is not food-related. This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting from food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting from food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. You might choose to stop using social media or watching television and then bring that element back into your life in healthy doses.
This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and drink water and juice for fluids and eat fruits and vegetables for food.
Complete Fast
In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option. If you are considering this kind of fast, please consult a medical professional first to ensure that you are physically able to participate.
Partial Fast
This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, or from sunup to sundown.
